Email… the worlds simplest electronic communication method. Why is that even though I have email that I can retrieve from anywhere in the world with a client, web browser, my phone, etc, I still have issues sending it at times?
At work, I tunnel SMTP over SSH when necessary just to get to my server, and occasionally the tunnel isn’t up and running. Consequently mail gets stored on the laptops local outbox until the next time it can send. Wouldn’t it be great if the laptop had enough intelligence programmed into it to sense my phone sitting next to it.
On shut down of the laptop with mail unsuccessfully sent, it should use a fast network medium, like UltraWideband, to shunt messages across to my mobile device for sending via another channel. I shouldn’t have to manually tell it when to send and when not to, I shouldn’t have to pull up and tear down tunnels. It should all be dynamic. We live in the 21st century with always on connectivity, yet we’re limited by closed thinking and lack of imagination. If I could program, I know what I’d be writing for Kontact right now 🙂
