Zenworks & DNS pain

I’ve been wondering for a while how to import workstations into Zen when they are in a different DNS zone from the server that should be handling them. For instance, we have all our workstations in ch.nes.scot.nhs.uk, yet their DNS search domain is nes.scot.nhs.uk, due to the servers having their A records there.

Now, when ZWS fires up, it pokes at the hostname zenwsimport, looking for a Zenworks server to talk to in the zone. However, it finds none in our current setup. This… is a royal pain. There seems to be no way to manually push a workstation towards a particular server, other than editing the hosts file of the workstation to point the zenwsimport host at the server IP. I could also associate a zenwsimp process for every user of the OU, but yet again it’s more of a hack than a proper solution. Neither of these options are very flexible. Why can’t I just specify the zenwsimport host in a DHCP option? Visiting laptops can be handled by setting the number of ‘events before registration’ to something sensible, avoiding the immediate import of any visitors. If anyone has any better ideas, then I’m open to suggestions…
