My new APT model arrived, and it’s in much better condition than the first one. Just a few minor handling marks, and some damage to the overhead wiring on the power car. The wiring can easily be replaced with some TLC, and it looks perfect considering the price I got it at. Pictures will be on the gallery soon.
My next task will be to purchase some spare trailer units, and do a cut’n’shut on them to try and recreate the infamous missing R705 unit.

For the past two weeks, Jill & I have been sorting out the physical side of moving Absolute Studios from one building to another a few miles away. Life has been completely hectic, but it’s allowed us to start with a completely custom designed building, proper infrastructure, and a decent set of air conditioning machines. I’ve had one day off in the past 3 weeks, and many many late nights. Georgia and Grant have been helping us move by lugging stuff into and out of the large van we bought for the purpose, and the last loads will be done tomorrow. I have a renderfarm to rebuild, a server room to relocate (as the current one is temporary whilst the new one gets the wall removed to fit the aircon kit), and the restructuring of everything else to contend with. We’re on a new network, new subnet, new switching core - everything is new bar the actual desks, workstations and a few servers.
Complete madness, but damned good experience

Friday, went off to Michelles for dinner with Charlotte and Scott. Had a good time, and then went to Firewater to meet Sandy and his workmates on a work night out. Saturday was spent preparing the Land Rover for Sunday, and then off to Marsailis 21st birthday Ceilidh with Charlotte and Chris. It was a fantastic ceilidh, and just went to prove how unfit I am. Charlotte and I left at around 2330, as we had to be up at 0530 for the journey to Knockhill. We then took the time on Sunday evening to drive around the countryside surrounding Saline, Oakley and Cullross, as the sun set over the hills. Lovely stuff.

Met Michelle and Charlotte after work, went shopping and then we all went back to Michelles for dinner. Had a good laugh, got her connected to the internet, had a nice dinner, and helped extinguish a small fire in the kitchen… Eventually got home around midnight, feeling worse for wear and now suffering for it.

The APT has arrived, and will shortly be going back. It’s got scratches on every unit bar one, the ’scruff’ on one carriage is actually a crack, and there is bodywork damage to 2 of the 5 units. It’s sucks to have such a rare item damaged like that, and I certainly wouldn’t have bought it if it had been described accurately on the ebay page. “one of the cars has a scruff mark on one side, could easily be repaired, and slight paint rub, otherwise excellent condition.” - errr, no…. I’ll have my hundred quid back tyvm

This _awful_ image is of me eating an apple that Michelle gave me. Given my apparent aversion to eating anything healthy, neither Charlotte or Michelle believed that I would eat it, so here’s the proof! Time between being given it and eating it is about 2 hours, so it wasn’t even a “Fine, I’ll eat it now then!” situation
It was pretty tasty actually.

I’ve been having a look at rackmount computers, and quite fancy one or two of the Tyan Transport GS12 or GX21 machines.

SSL on glasgownet.com now works, after a prolonged absence. Not in any way related to the pitiful amounts of documentation relating to SSL support on Apache2, and Debians strange way of organizing itself. In the end I needed two NameVirtualHost declarations in apache2.conf, one for each port
NameVirtualHost 80.68.89.159:80
NameVirtualHost 80.68.89.159:443
A Listen 443 in ports.conf, and then the appropriate entry in the vhost config file.
It seems easy enough now, but with so little documentation, and conflicting advice on the net, it was a bit more difficult.

Karina and Thomas arrived safely on Thursday, and we promptly went out to Uisge Beathe for a few drinks. I was working on Friday, so Charlotte entertained them during the day, and in the evening we went out for a lovely meal at O Sole O Mio
Saturday was spent trying to visit the Glasgow Science Tower, but in true fashion it was closed thanks to “circuit problems” - the doormonkey was not of British descent, and was still getting to grips with the Engrish Langwaj. Instead, we went off to Ashton Lane for grub, and then into town to meet Charlotte on her lunch break, and Michelle before she went to work. We all split after some more food, Thomas and Karina went shopping, Charlotte went back to work, and Michelle gave me a run up the road before heading off to work as well. Thomas and Karina came back here later on, and cooked us up a wonderful Danish dinner.
Today we had a lovely big fryup brunch, and then went off to The Barras, and then to Fossil Grove.
