Dinner

Dinner at Michelles on Wednesday. Hmmmm, pizza :-D. She’s doing well, and Charlotte got more than a little tipsy on a bottle of wine that evening :-)
Went down to Bills yesterday evening to try and get his Windows XP machine online. It still claimed it had no dialtone (yes, people still use dialup…) The line was checked all the way up to the modem, and came up working with every phone we tried. However, when the RJ11 was put into either of the two modems, they both registered no dialtone. After installing Linux, we got the same result. Suffice to say I now have the modems home with me for testing.
Also went to First Aid training today for most of the day. Was interesting, funny, and very worthwhile. I hope I don’t have to use the knowledge gained today, but I guess I’m better for it. I’ve seen many an accident, but as it’s usually a motorsport event there are medics already on the scene.

Apache2

Whilst attempting to set up Apache2 SSL on Debian, I came across this little snippet of information. I also quite enjoyed the theory presented by Barksdale about possible Debian ‘flavours’ in his platform text

The Week

I’ve had a rather good week last week. I seem to have kept myself reasonably busy, and not been shattered by the end of the week :-)
I was dragged along to the GUSCDC dance class on Tuesday to practice for the 50th Anniversary Ball this weekend. Gordon and Carolyne came around afterwards, and then Ellen turned up just before they were due to leave. It was good to see everyone again :-)
On Wednesday Charlotte went shopping for 2 BMW rear coils, and we then headed out that evening to my parents ostensibly to fit the springs. Instead, we just ended up tidying up odds and ends, and promising to fit the springs on Sunday :-) Thursday was a Lush day. They were doing a special offers day, with wine & cheese, freebies, late opening. Gordon & Carolyne came along as well, and we all spent far too much time and money in there. Worth it though :-D
Friday and Saturday were days of relaxation, and then on Sunday I finally got the springs fitted to the BMW. Unfortunately the OBC appears to have gotten damp, and all hell breaks loose when the key is turned. I’ve sprayed all the connections with moisture displacer, and the battery is connected again to let it warm up and hopefully sort itself out over the next few days. The bonnet catch also seized up, and mashed itself into the front subframe when I shut the bonnet, so that’s another visit to the scrappy in the near future :-D
Dancing tonight! More practice for the ball so I don’t make a fool of myself when I’m up there…

Neighbours

It would appear that our downstairs neighbour can’t enjoy a single evening without putting thumping loud music at high volumes. I’ve asked him to turn it down before, but it just happens again the next night, and the next, and the next…
What can be done? I’m sure it’s not loud enough to be ‘antisocial’, but it’s loud enough to be heard below the level of our own music, and to make watching the and working on the computer uncomfortable. Sigh

Cars

If I ever get the time and money, then I may consider this…

Internet

Why ISPs shouldn’t be charging a monthly fee for additional IP addresses…
By themselves, these resources have no intrinsic value; their worth is only realised in conjunction with the provision of Internet access. Thus, while registries may charge for their administrative and technical services, they may not charge for name space or address space as such; no unit cost or price tag can be attached to a domain name or to an IP address, public or private.

Films

Ok, I was at the cinema yesterday and I saw the trailer for Oceans 12. Apparently it’s not out until today, yet I saw it in Denmark last week, and according to Stina it’s been out there for weeks. What gives?
