FON & BT

BT and FON have joined forces, and now it would seem that BT are inviting all their broadband subscribers to share their wifi through FON. I’m unsure if this means that BT are updating the Homehub firmware, or figuring out another way of deploying it, but it’s a good move towards ‘free’ community wi-fi however they go about it. I’ve always been a believer in paying once for your net access, and then being able to access the net from any location. Fon goes a long way towards this, and it’s nice to see BT partnering up to provide such a service.

Orange data

I’d been having some issues connecting my laptop or PDA to Orange over 3G using my phone, and reluctantly I called Orange tech support. Suffice to say, I’m impressed. Not only did they offer to help me set it up in Linux or Windows, but they called back within 10 minutes.

Ultimately, the following applies…

Modem preinitialization string is - at+cgdcont=1,”IP”,”orangeinternet”
User is ‘user’ and password is ‘pass’, although I think this may just be for laughs, as the phone authenticates with the network itself.
The number to dial is the regular *99#

Happy days :-)
